Album Review: Nick Tann – Life is a River
An up and coming artist, who is slowly but surely sneaking up on us all, let me introduce Nick Tann. Singer, songwriter and guitar playing extraordinaire. Having first heard Nick’s music over the Internet, imagine my delight when like a rolling stone he started to gather moss. In large quantities. Not only producing an album, but appearing on i-tunes ready for download and recently appearing on nothing less than BBC radio. His music was played due to the sheer number of emails that bombarded them requesting they play his music NOW DAMMIT.  His songs are surprising. Surprising in their difference to one another. Just when you think you have nailed his 'sound' he throws a Spanish guitar or a sitar into the works to dumbfound you.  Just when you think you know him you then find out he played every note of the music himself, and recorded the whole album himself as well as writing it all.  You then instantly replay all the songs again thinking, is it possible that I like them even more now? The answer is yes. From listening to 'Dave' and gently smirking to yourself that you know a 'Dave' and trying very hard to remember the words, to the gently fabulous 'I Just Can't Get Happy' which you hum along to wishing someone had written it for you, and onto the harder more gritty stuff like 'That Woman'. I can't talk about all his songs except for the first one that made my heart flip and my inner music woman think 'note this one girl its a winner' was 'How Can It Be Wrong', which every person in the world can feel as if it was written just for you, and we all have someone we want to play it to. That’s the key to Nick, he is inside your head and now he is about to crawl into your heart.

Radio play on the BBC!

Nick's track "That Woman" was featured on the South:Live demo panel on February 10th. The panel gave it a good review, saying it was well produced with a great sound. Thanks to those of you who sent in emails and texts of support.

Other Reviews

... "Nick is another newcomer to Acoustic Fridays and impressed us so much with a recent local performance that we offered him a gig on the spot. His vocals are reminiscent of the legend that is Sting, and his songs are damn good too." Andy, Acoustic Fridays/Sequoia

... "Nick has a relaxed charm and he drives a great 12-string guitar style complementing his gentle but powerful vocals. A very good solo singer-songwriter he is too." Mark, One Night Stand Acoustic

... "Great Job! great variation between fingerpicking, strumming, and hammer-ons making for a very textured guitar piece. The vocals present a cold melody that compliment the guitar parts. I think the guitar melodies on their own would do very well in the instrumental genre, however your voice takes the song even further. Great Job!" ... "And then it kicked in... Great question. Brings in the human connection. Truely feelin this one. The guitars are so very lovely. Very touching lyrics." Extra Credit: Male Vocals , Guitars , Lyrics , Mood , Best Potential Movie Soundtrack . - thomcadger California

... "Sting Reincarnated... Let me begin by saying I love the feel of this song. Puts me in the mood of Sting who I absolutely adore. The acoustic guitar was an excellent premise for this song. The lead vocal also did a good job with his delivery and cohesion with the melody. I think this song is excellent. Really good effort." ... " Great! I loved the melody. This track actually made my mood feel better. It's a pretty uplifting track. I love the guitar, it's what caught my attention the most. ... " I love it! I knew I loved this song from the moment I heard that gorgeous acoustic guitar! Great vocal presence and outstanding lyrics. The song has a sexiness to it, almost seductive that I'm pretty sure the ladies will love. I like the how the song ended witha little harmony to close out. Outstanding performance!
