Nick Tann is a charismatic and experienced singer songwriter and highly accomplished guitarist, specialising in the 12-string guitar. His distinctive and passionate vocals and beautiful melodies will stay with you. His style could be described as blues with soul, but he likes to skip across musical genres to produce his own original sound.
An integral part of Southampton's music scene he can be found playing most weeks as well as appearing regularly on BBC and local radio.
He also produces a highly popular weekly podcast, focusing on playing as well as advising other independent artists.
Nick is also the originator of Pure Acoustica, an organisation that champions the playing of music without the use of microphones, P.A.s and amplifiers
Nick's influences include Jeff Buckley, Elvis Costello, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Rufus Wainwright and the great bass player, Jaco Pastorius. What really defines Nick is his amazingly powerful 5-octave vocal range, intricate finger picking and unforgettable melodies. Once you have heard him, you won't forget that combination of 12-string and that voice!
Originally a bass player, Nick started his career in the early 1990s playing with many different bands including Russians, The Red Stripe Jazz Band and Caroline Hilton. He started playing his solo 12-string acoustic set in small venues all over London in 1999 as well as collaborating with eclectic trio Drunk on Logic.
In 2001, he established, wrote the music and fronted the funk band People, gigging all over London and the South East playing venues such as the Forum, Sound, the Garage, the Mean Fiddler, West One Four, the Spice of Life, the Arts Cafe and the Kashmir Klub, also making an appearance at the BBC Radio 2 music festival in Cardiff.
Throughout his music career, Nick's main passion has always been songwriting, and he has built up a large portfolio of original songs over several years. His style skips across many musical genres but is defined by a distinctive vocal range, intricate 12-string guitar and unforgettable melodies.
